What is a CPM Machine?

CPM stands for continuous passive motion. A CPM machine moves a joint through a controlled range without the user actively producing that movement. It may be included in selected rehabilitation plans; it is not something every knee-replacement patient needs.

When CPM may be considered

The treating surgeon decides whether CPM is appropriate for the procedure and recovery. AAOS guidance does not support routine CPM after uncomplicated primary knee replacement. Selected circumstances may need a different individualized plan.

Use the prescribed settings

The care team specifies range of motion, speed, session duration and schedule. Equipment setup must fit the user and the operated joint. Do not increase the range or session time on your own.

Keep rehabilitation separate

A CPM session does not replace prescribed active exercises, walking practice or physical therapy. Follow weight-bearing and movement restrictions from the surgical team.

Arrange equipment if prescribed

Ask MedEquip Shop about CPM rentals and walking aids recommended by the care team. Call 713-669-0518 to confirm the correct equipment, setup instructions and rental terms.
