Choosing a chair that fits your routine

Start with seat fit

Compare seat width and depth, foot support and any cushion you will use. Check the exact rated capacity for your selected size.

Measure your space

Check doorways, turning space and vehicle openings. Compare overall chair dimensions rather than seat dimensions alone.

Plan who will help

Consider self-propulsion, attendant assistance and how the chair will be lifted. Removable components affect the weight you handle.

Manual wheelchair questions

What is a manual wheelchair?

A manual wheelchair has no drive motor. It is moved by the rider using hand rims or by a companion using the push handles, depending on the model.

How is a transport chair different?

A transport chair normally has small rear wheels and is designed for an attendant to push. A standard manual wheelchair usually has large rear wheels with hand rims for self-propulsion.

How do I choose between lightweight and heavy duty?

Start with the exact rated capacity, seat dimensions and support you need. Then compare overall width, chair weight and lifting weight. A lighter frame does not tell you the weight capacity.

What is the difference between recline and tilt?

Recline changes the angle between the seat and backrest. Tilt-in-space changes their angle together while preserving the seat-to-back angle. These functions are different and are not interchangeable.

How do I choose a seat width and depth?

Compare the user’s seated measurements with the manufacturer’s seating dimensions, including any cushion or positioning supports. Ask a seating professional to help with individual fit.

Will my wheelchair fit through my doorway?

Measure the clear opening at your narrowest doorway and compare it with the chair’s overall assembled width. Seat width alone does not show how much space the chair needs.

Can I fold a manual wheelchair for my car?

Many models fold, and some have removable wheels or front rigging. Check the exact folded dimensions, lifting weight and vehicle opening before choosing.

Are cushions and legrests included?

Included equipment varies by product and selected configuration. Check the listing for the supplied front rigging, cushion and other components; optional accessories may be sold separately.

Are tilt wheelchairs available to order online?

No tilt model is currently listed for online purchase. Call (713) 669-0518 to discuss current options and seating requirements.
