After Knee Surgery…

Prepare for recovery after knee surgery with the mobility and home-care equipment recommended by your surgical team. Walking aids, activity limits and rehabilitation schedules should match the procedure and your individual recovery—not a general online timeline.

Plan mobility before coming home

Ask which walker, crutches or cane you need and learn how to fit and use it. Confirm how much weight you may place on the operated leg and when your team wants you to begin standing or walking.

Make the home easier to navigate

Clear walking routes, consider bathroom access and arrange frequently used items within reach. Ask the therapist about transfers, stairs and help needed at home. A lift chair or hospital bed is an option only when it fits the care plan.

Use rehabilitation equipment only if prescribed

A CPM machine is not required for everyone after knee replacement and does not replace physical therapy. Follow the surgeon’s exercise and movement instructions rather than changing range or session length yourself.

Know the recovery contact plan

Your discharge instructions should explain wound care, medicines, warning signs and who to call for concerns. Contact the care team for unexpected deterioration; equipment changes do not replace a medical assessment.

Arrange the recommended supplies

Browse walkers and rollators and, when prescribed, CPM rental options. Call MedEquip Shop at 713-669-0518 with the care team’s equipment recommendations.

Follow the surgical team’s timing and weight-bearing instructions for your procedure.

Which walking aid should I choose?

Your therapist or surgical team should recommend and fit the appropriate aid.
